The Silencer Shop kiosk is officially live at Good 4 Guns as of TODAY!
Here’s the honest version: this thing was supposed to be here over a month ago. When it didn’t come, we drove to Houston ourselves and came home with one. Four days from a phone call on Saturday to the kiosk humming in our store on Tuesday. That’s how much we wanted it in your hands.
Now it’s here. And the NFA process in Van Alstyne just got a whole lot simpler.
What Is This Thing, Actually?
The Silencer Shop kiosk is a self-service station that handles the full digital side of the NFA application process — right here at our counter.
You or create (or link to via QR code) your Silencer Shop account, and the kiosk walks you through everything the ATF needs: fingerprints, photo, personal information, and form submission. All captured digitally. All sent through Silencer Shop’s platform straight to the ATF.
The whole thing takes about ten minutes.
That’s it. That’s the kiosk.
Why It Matters
Here’s what the NFA process used to look like for most people: schedule a fingerprinting appointment somewhere inconvenient. Print paperwork. Get a passport photo taken. Fill out forms. Mail things. Drive back to the shop. Hope you didn’t miss a box on page three.
Here’s what it looks like now: walk into Good 4 Guns, use the kiosk, walk out ten minutes later with your application submitted.
The kiosk doesn’t speed up the ATF’s approval timeline — that’s a federal process, and we can’t change federal math. But that process has significantly sped itself up recently, and the kiosk compresses everything before the wait from weeks of appointments into ten minutes at our counter. For a lot of people, that’s the part that was keeping them from starting the process at all.
And one more thing worth knowing: the $200 tax stamp is currently free under current federal legislation. That could change at any time, but for right now, the biggest financial hurdle on an NFA purchase just… isn’t there.
Your Questions, Answered
Do I need to already own a suppressor to use the kiosk?
No. In fact, you don’t need to have purchased anything to set up your Silencer Shop account — and setting up the account used to be the smart first step. Now that the kiosk is here, that step is optional. You can walk in, pick out your suppressor, and do the entire kiosk process the same visit.
Do I need an appointment?
Nope. Walk-ins are welcome. One of our NFA specialists will walk you through it.
What do I need to bring with me?
A valid government-issued photo ID and your phone. That’s it. If you’re doing a trust application, bring your trust documentation.
How long does the kiosk process actually take?
About ten minutes start to finish.
What happens after I use the kiosk? When do I actually take my suppressor home?
Once your application goes to the ATF, the wait time is out of our hands — current approval times vary. When your stamp is approved, we’ll let you know, and you come pick up your suppressor. The kiosk handles your side of the paperwork fast. The federal side is still the federal side.
Can I use the kiosk for things other than suppressors?
Yes. The kiosk handles the full range of NFA items — suppressors, SBRs, SBSes, and other NFA-regulated items. If it needs a tax stamp, the kiosk handles it.
How much does the tax stamp cost?
Currently, the federal tax stamp is $0 under current legislation. This is a significant change from the historical $200 fee. Legislation can change, so this isn’t guaranteed to stay in place, but as of right now, the tax stamp is free. We’ll update this post if anything changes.
Individual or trust — which should I choose?
Both are supported, and both have pros and cons depending on your situation. Individual applications are simpler. Trusts allow multiple people to legally possess the NFA item and are useful for estate planning. Our NFA specialists can walk you through which makes sense for you — it’s the kind of conversation that’s worth having in person, not from a blog post.
Is my information stored safely?
Fair question, and an important one. The kiosk uses heavy encryption, and the entire system is built to meet stringent ATF compliance requirements. Your fingerprints and personal information are handled with the same security standards the federal government requires for NFA applications. If data security is a concern for you — and it should be — this is the most secure version of this process available.
What if I’m nervous or have never done this before?
Good. That means you’re taking it seriously. The whole reason we pushed to get this kiosk is that the NFA process used to feel intimidating and bureaucratic, and we didn’t like that for our customers. Our NFA specialists will walk you through every step. There are no dumb questions. We’d rather explain something three times than have you leave confused.
